12 Awesome Love Letter Ideas

This past December (2016) was my husband's and my first wedding anniversary.  I'm not always very good at the whole gift giving thing, but I knew that for this I wanted to do something special.  I lucked out with this guy.  I've heard that lot of guys don't enjoy the whole love letter, and cheesy this and cheesy that, but my husband loves it.  Just one more reason so love my sweet husband.
I thought long and hard about what I wanted to do, scrolling through pinterest months before our anniversary.  I saw so many cute ideas that it became difficult to choose.  Finally, I came across a few ideas that I really liked, put them together, and came up with this.  Twelve letters for twelve months of marriage.  I even made my own envelopes for each letter.  (I'm thinking each year from here on out I might add one more to the mix, unless I come up with something better).

Letter #1: How I Felt When We First Met
In this first letter, I shared what exactly I was doing, and what the gift was.  I explained the 12 letters for 12 months, then proceeded to share with my husband the story of how we first met.  I love our story, and I loved getting to share my side with my Sweetheart.

Letter #2: Reminisce About the First Time You Said, "I Love You."
I went home immediately after this experience and wrote all about it in my journal, so for this letter I actually typed out the whole journal entry that day to share with my husband.  How much more honest can it get?

Letter #3: What Are the Physical Aspects of Your Spouse You Love the Most?
I chose to make this one a little more romantic by mentioning things like his arms, because I feel safe when he holds me, and his hands, because they fit perfectly in mine.  Of course with this topic, let your imagination run wild, but I will leave that up to any of you who decide to use this gift idea! ;)

Letter #4: My Fondest Memory of Us
I really enjoyed writing this one, because it gave me a good opportunity to share that moment when I first fell in love with my husband, and what things I felt brought us to that point.

Letter #5: Share What Marriage Has Taught You?
I have learned a lot in the one year we have been married so far, and it was great to be able to share some of those things.  I loved that through this topic I was able to get some feedback from Lance as well.  I got to hear about what he felt he has learned in marriage so far, and I was surprised at how everything he said was both super similar to what I had to say and super different.  It made for a great conversation, and a great learning opportunity as we shared our lessons learned with each other.

Letter #6: What The Future Holds
Or more like, what do you imagine the future holds?  Where do you picture you and your spouse a year from now? Five? Ten?  It's fun to imagine :)

Letter #7: A Letter About Now
Take a minute to share what you are thinking right now.  How have you felt in writing these letters so far?  What thoughts cross your mind throughout the day?  When your spouse comes to mind, what about him?

Letter #8: Why My Husband is the Best Husband Ever...Alphabetically
This one was pretty simple.   Simply take the letters of the alphabet and write a trait, or a sentence, or something about your spouse.  Ex: A. Because he is AMAZING!! And has really nice ARMS ;)

Letter #9: Bucket list
My husband let me know early in our relationship, that the best gift I could ever give him is my time.  He is seriously picky when it comes to gifts, and I am having to learn to be okay with that, but there is always one gift I know he will always love.  If it has something to do quality time spent together, he will love it.  That said, I worried as I wrote these letters that he might not like them, so I took the time to make some fun plans. My bucket list was full of fun date ideas I wanted to do with my husband, some general, and some planned out to the T.  And then at the end I left a few lines for my husband to fill in some blanks of what he might want to do with me as well.  We now have a long list of date ideas that we can't wait to go on! :)

Letter #10: My Promise to You
On to a more serious note.  I took this one very seriously.  I wanted my husband to know what it meant to me to be married to him.  Writing this letter felt almost like writing vows, things I promised to always do, or try to do, to always show my love for my Sweetheart.  This is probably one my favorites.

Letter #11: Relationship Challenge
Thirty day relationship challenge!! :) So FUN! I took some time to look through a few relationship challenges on pinterest and wrote down some of those ideas, and some of my own, to make the ultimate relationship challenge. (If anyone wants to know details on that challenge, comment, and I will make a post about it.)  The goal was for each of us to pick one thing on the list to do every day, to help improve our relationship.  I can't say that we actually remembered to do one thing every day for those thirty days, but I am sure we will do better in the future!  It was good for us though, as it helped us to focus on each other a little more despite our busy lives with school, and work, and church callings, etc.  I would definitely love to try it again in the future.

Letter #12: Thoughts that Come to Mind
Take a moment to share anything you might have learned, or come to realize, as you wrote these letters.  Are there any thoughts you might like to share that did not fit in any particular topic?  What thoughts come to mind when you see your spouse?  When you kiss your spouse?  When you hear your spouse, or think of your spouse.  Share anything and everything you would like your spouse to know.

Once I finished each of these letters, I put them each in their own envelope and numbered them.  I tied a ribbon around them and left them on my husbands dresser for him to find in the morning, and asked that he only read one at a time.  He loved them, and that made me pretty happy.

  2. Coming from the receiving side of this idea, I loved the thought and time that was put into. I was so much fun to go through them day after day being surprised that she had been working on this for so long. I loved the memories she shared and the new ideas that she proposed. This was an amazing gift! :)
